We have been diving a lot at the Hyatt Reef (Canoe Beach – Hanakao’o Beach) lately, due to the current shoreline erosion at our reef in front of our resort, KBC. I noticed this Frogfish on my second dive of the day, and then was lucky enough to find it again on my Night Dive. “Let’s Get Tanked..!!”
Hawaiian Hawksbill Sea Turtle – “Bubbles”
So, we were diving at Hanakao’o Beach and had a Hawaiian Hawksbill Sea Turtle swim through our group. We come to discover that is a Hawksbill that hasn’t been catalogued yet. The Hawaiian Hawksbill are protected here in Hawaiian waters and research/data collected daily. We got to name this Hawksbill, so of course we chose BUBBLES !
Let us know if you see her out there … “Let’s Get Tanked..!!”
Spotted Eagle Ray …”Sandy”
Meet “Sandy”, an amazing Spotted Eagle Ray who has been hanging out at Airport Beach on a regular basis for the last month or so. She has gotten her name “Sandy” due to always having just a bit of sand on her topside. She displays a “not-worried” behavior to Scuba divers… so if approached slowly, you’re in for a real treat of an experience.
Clumpy Nudibranch (Asteronotus Cepitosus)
We’ve been seeing this lil creature cruising the sand patch at Honokowai Beach the last couple of days. Definitely one of the larger species of Nudibranch, cruising at 8″ in length. AWESOME !! The Clumpy Nudibranch ( Asteronotus Cespitosus )
Hawksbill @ Honokawai !!
We never know what we’re going to come across on our dives, but we always hope it’s something like the amazing Hawksbill Sea Turtle.
White Mouth Morey Eel
Found this cool lil fella today. This White Mouth Morey Eel was only about 10″, but still gave me a big growl !
7/11 CRAB at Airport Beach, MAUI
We came across this cool lil fella walking along the reef at Airport Beach. Kinda like a gentle giant !
Hawaiian Monk Seal
We got super lucky on St. Patrick’s Day with a Monk Seal swimming around us the entire dive ! She was curious on how we could stay underwater for so long without having to come up so often like she did. Totally EPIC experience !
Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle
Mala Pier is such a great dependable dive site for seeing lots of critters and lots of big animals as well ! This dive we saw Turtles, Sharks, Frogfish (multiple), Eagle Rays, Octopus, and more… ALL on 1 Dive !! Definitely had us wanting to go back for more !!
